The Creation of the Fleur de Cajou Print

The Creation of the Fleur de Cajou Print

At the heart of Fleur de Cajou lies a story of memory and craftsmanship, a journey captured through the lens of Ambrosio Marmolejo in collaboration with french artist Maïwenn Nicolas. Shot in her atelier, the film traces the making of Maathi’s first motif, from paint to poetry...a meditation on light, sea, and emotion.

From the Coastline to the Canvas

The Fleur de Cajou print is Maathi Paris’s first motif, a story of craftsmanship, nature, and quiet luxury told through silk and cotton.

Designed for our debut collection, The Sea Remembers (SS26), it captures the spirit of effortless resortwear and Parisian refinement, made for women who carry summer with them, wherever they go.

The inspiration began in Goa, where the cashew flower 'la fleur de cajou' blooms only once a year, marking the tender arrival of summer.

Elusive and fleeting, this rare blossom graces the coastal air for just a few weeks, filling it with a soft, honeyed fragrance that signals warmth, and long days by the sea.

Soon after, the cashew fruit emerges...golden, blushing, and fragile, a fleeting gift of the tropics that thrives only in the first heat of summer. Its short season and delicate nature make it a true rarity, a symbol of beauty that exists precisely because it cannot last.

The luminous blush of its petals, the sunlit skin of the fruit, the salt carried in the wind, and the terracotta warmth of Goan soil became the foundation of this handcrafted Maathi print.

Artist Maïwenn Nicolas, who created the motif in collaboration with Maathi, infused it with her own memories — of childhood summers by the sea, the rhythm of the waves, and the serenity of solitude. Each brushstroke transforms nature into memory, and memory into art.

A Poem Along the Edge

Along the border of every Fleur de Cajou scarf runs a handwritten poem by Maïwenn, a tender reflection on lightness, freedom, and the ocean’s eternal embrace.

It is a whisper to the wearer, a reminder that beauty often lives in what fades.

Grains of sand in my hair,
Cashew trees in bloom, their fruit trembling...
a taste of happiness.
I dance among the rays of the sun.
I walk where everything feels light,
where we are carried by the sea,
by the same wave that erases our footprints
only to offer them back to the deep.
I am a drop of the ocean.
- Maïwenn Nicolas for Maathi Paris

This intimate text is a signature of emotion. Each word mirrors the sea’s rhythm, transforming every scarf into a keepsake, a love letter to summer.

Crafted for the Modern Muse

Printed on fine silk and cotton voile, each scarf and sarong moves like water...fluid, soft, and enduring.

Whether worn poolside or styled in the city, the Fleur de Cajou embodies the Maathi muse: elegant, free, and deeply connected to nature.

This is a memory woven into fabric, a piece that invites you to remember where you’ve been, and dream of where you’ll go next.
